The Dominican Republic’s national energy commission CNE this week signed definitive concessions with with two energy promoters, greenlighting the installation of just over 80 MWp of solar farms in the Caribbean country.

Dominican power producer Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina SA (EGE Haina) secured a concession for its 48.29-MW/60-MWp Girasol II solar project located in the municipality of Yaguate. This is the same municipality that hosts the first Girasol solar farm, which EGE Haina inaugurated in 2021.

The second approved project is Jambolan Solar, situated in Pedro Brand municipality. This solar farm will have 18.40 MW of nominal capacity and 20.69 MW peak capacity.

The CNE signed the concession with the representative of the Jambolan project company, Martin Johann Wagner. Wagner, a German national, was once associated with F&S solar concept GmbH, which built the Montecristi solar farm in the Dominican Republic.
