Dong Energy gets stake in two UK offshore wind projects for GBP 15m

Dec 19, 2011 - Danish state-owned utility Dong Energy said last Friday it had purchased a 33.3% interest in two offshore wind projects in the Hornsea zone from SMart Wind for an initially agreed GBP 15 million (USD 23.2m/EUR 17.8m).

Dong Energy has secured as well an option to acquire the remaining stake in the farms and an additional 1 GW in the Hornsea zone, off the UK east coast.

The overall capacity of the wind farms, Heron Wind Ltd and Njord Ltd, can reach up to 1 GW, Dong stated.

SMart Wind is a joint venture of Irish Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures and is the developer of the Hornsea zone. The area has the potential for wind farms with a total installed capacity of 4 GW.
