World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CEST(ADPnews) - Oct 13, 2010 - Danish state-owned utility Dong Energy A/S has cancelled plans for a 300 MW biomass-fired electricity generation plant in Hull, northeastern England, as part of efforts to refocus on core operations.
The wood chip-burning facility, originally planned for an 80,000 square metre (861,100 square feet) site owned by Associated British Ports, UK's largest port operator, was supposed to create 800 temporary jobs during construction and a further 60 when operational.
"The company has taken the decision to focus on core activities such as gas-fired power stations and offshore wind developments. Sadly, this means we must withdraw our proposals to build a biomass power station near Hull," Dong said in a statement.
ABP and Dong were also planning to construct a GBP 100 million (USD 158m/EUR 113m) shipping berth next to the proposed power station.
