Philadelphia-based renewable energy company Doral Renewables on Tuesday celebrated the upcoming launch of commercial operations of the 400-MW Mammoth North Solar project in India.

The event was attended by Indiana’s Secretary of Commerce David Rosenberg, landowners and representatives from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the American Clean Power Association (ACP), project contractors and other sector players.

Mammoth North Solar is the first phase of the 1.3-GW Mammoth Solar complex, which is one of the largest such projects in the country.

The 400-MW plant was built by SOLV Energy, acting as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) provider. It uses American-made trackers from Nextracker and is designed for dual use so that local farmers can still raise livestock at the site. Moreover, more than 1,500 sheep are actually being used as a way to manage vegetation there.
