DRI Energy puts online 1.24 MW solar system in California

(ADPnews) - Apr 28, 2011 - US solar power integrator DRI Energy yesterday opened a 1.24-MW of solar system in the City of San Jose, California.

DRI Energy designed and constructed the system which includes 3,500 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels installed on the rooftops and parking canopies at San Jose's Central Service Yard facility.

The solar system is seen to produce 1.8 million kWh of electricity in the first year of operation and some 33 million kWh over 20 years, which is enough to power 3,100 homes a year, and offset 35 million pounds (15.9m kg) of greenhouse gas emissions, DRI Energy said.

The city will buy the electricity output under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), thus reducing energy costs in the long term without providing upfront costs.
