Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTUK sustainable packaging producer DS Smith said its Belisce Paper Mill, located in eastern Croatia, switched to green energy to help power its paper making operations.
The switch is predicted to result in a 23% reduction of the plant's annual carbon emissions, which is equivalent to up to 27,000 tonnes of carbon, DS Smith said in a statement on Thursday.
The green electricity is being provided by HEP Opskrba, the electricity supply unit of Croatian state-owned energy utility HEP.
"Our partnership with HEP Opskrba, who will provide 60% of our energy requirements at the mill, will be a key driver in our overall strategy to reduce the impact of our operations here in Croatia," the company said.
DS Smith noted that the green electricity it will receive from HEP Opskrba is produced from renewable sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, eligible biomass, and low-impact small hydroelectric sources.
The Belisce Paper Mill produces up to 215,000 tonnes of paper a year. DS Smith acquired the production plant in 2015.
