Ukrainian private energy group DTEK plans to install a series of energy storage systems across Ukraine with a total capacity of 200 MW, investing EUR 140 million (USD 154.6m) in the project.

The facilities are aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s energy security and should become operational no later than September 2025, DTEK said on Thursday.

The storage systems will be used by Ukrainian state-owed grid operator Ukrenergo. DTEK agreed to provide ancillary services to the state-owned firm after winning an auction in August.

"Despite the war and limited access to foreign capital markets, we continue to invest in Ukraine – not only to restore destroyed infrastructure, but also to build new facilities in line with our long-term strategy,” DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko commented in the statement.

The latest initiative comes after the Ukrainian energy group acquired in July a 133-MW/532-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Poland from local developer Columbus Energy.
