Dutch brewery Royal Grolsch has agreed to source electricity from a 22-MW-plus portfolio of solar parks that are currently being built by AMPYR Solar Europe in the Netherlands.

The two companies announced this on Thursday, saying that they signed a multi-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA). The exact term of the contract was not mentioned.

Grolsch is part of Asahi Europe & International, which, in turn, is owned by Japanese beverage and food company Asahi Group Holdings Ltd (TYO:2502). The European business’ goal is to become carbon neutral across all its breweries by 2030 and across its wider supply chain by 2050.

The current development pipeline of AMPYR Solar Europe exceeds 2 GWp in the Netherlands and nears 7 GWp when counting German and UK projects, as well. A couple of weeks ago, the company said it has acquired a 390-MWp portfolio of solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the UK from local renewables developer Tyler Hill.

“AMPYR Solar Europe has developed a strong pipeline of solar assets across the Netherlands, which we will build out over the coming years,” said Stephen Mason, chief commercial officer of the London-based independent power producer (IPP).
