Dutch water supplier commissions 1.63 MW partially floating solar system

Dutch water supply company Evides Waterbedrijf NV on Tuesday said it has commissioned a 1.63-MWp partially-floating solar power facility at a water reservoir near Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The system, located in Kralingen, consists of 4,787 panels, which will produce a total of 1.7 million kWh annually. The power generated by the facility is set to cover about 15% of the needs of Evides' adjacent plant.

Next year, the company plans to conduct research into the impact of the floating system on the water reservoir. It will analyse algae growth, the spread of bacteria from bird droppings, lower UV radiation on the water and the wind's impact.

Evides intends to explore the possibility of adding more solar systems at other reservoirs since it has calculated that it can meet 100% of its power needs by using solar panels.
