Eaglesledge Energy (ELE) on Tuesday announced progress on its Belle Plaine Clean-Tech Energy Refinery & Solar Facility project in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan with the completion of the first public consultation round.

The scheme envisages the construction of a clean-fuels refinery (CFR) capable of processing 30,000 barrels per stream day of low-sulphur light crude oil. It will produce predominantly diesel, gasoline and jet fuel.

The planned solar facility will have a capacity of 125 MW. A portion of its output will be used to power the CFR, with the bulk supporting the power grid and regional industry demand.

The project, which also envisages a railyard, will be located in the village of Belle Plaine, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) northwest of Pense. It will run parallel to the supply-chain route of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The Belle Plaine complex is being developed in partnership with Ochapowace First Nation's economic development group. In May, Atoskewin Business Development Corporation signed a pact for a new limited partnership with ELE that will give it a 35% shareholding in the project.
