A Belgrade-based investor has proposed to build a solar photovoltaic plant of around 300 MW near the city of Kladovo in eastern Serbia, according to documents posted on the city council’s website.

The project is known as Kladovo Solar Gate, a reference to the nearby Iron Gate I hydroelectric plant and the Iron Gates gorge on the Serbian-Romanian border. The investor is ERG Renewables doo, an entity registered in the Serbian capital.

The project is in the early planning stages and technical solutions have not been drafted yet. The land allocated to the Kladovo Solar Gate project spans roughly 583 hectares (1,441 acres). The proposed site is situated about 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) from the centre of town of Kladovo in rural and uninhabited part of the municipality, the documents state.
