EBRD Mulls Lending 60 Mln Euro under Romania SME Sustainable Energy Facility

BUCHAREST (Romania), August 15 (SeeNews) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said it is considering lending 60 million euro ($86 million) under a sustainable energy financing facility for on-lending to Romanian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide funding to commercial banks and leasing companies in Romania for on-lending to private sector SME borrowers for energy efficiency and renewable energy investments, the bank said in a statement last week.

"The project will help develop and demonstrate efficient and effective financing mechanisms for energy efficiency projects through new business models, including leasing, designed specifically to overcome aspects of energy efficiency projects considered risky and to reduce transaction costs," the EBRD said.

The proposed facility is pending final review by the bank.
