The European Commission (EC) on Tuesday gave the green light for a Polish state aid scheme of around EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.34bn) to support investments in equipment, including solar panels and wind turbines.

The scheme aims to boost investments in strategic sectors to drive the transition towards a net-zero economy. It will provide direct grants to companies producing relevant equipment, such as batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, heat-pumps, electrolysers, equipment for carbon capture usage and storage. Support will also be available for relevant key components and critical raw materials needed for the production of the equipment.

The Commission approved the measure under the State aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (TCTF) adopted in March 2023.

“This will help accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy, in line with the objectives of the Green Deal Industrial Plan and the EU’s climate neutrality target. At the same time, competition distortions remain limited,” Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President in charge of competition policy, said of the scheme.
