Israeli independent power producer (IPP) Econergy Renewable Energy Ltd (TLV:ECNR) said that it has connected its first solar farms in Italy, reaching a total capacity of nearly 20 MWp in the country.

The latest project to reach commercial operation is the 1-MWp Indovina plant in Sicily, which has joined three other 1-MWp solar farms in this region -- Palmeri, Gallo Assunta and Favari. The remainder of Ecoenergy’s Italian solar portfolio is the Piedmont region, consisting of the 11.5-MWp Rivarolo and the 4.2-MWp Cumiana parks.

Ecoenergy has been gaining ground in other markets in Europe, namely in the UK and Romania, but it also has big plans for Italy. The company says it has 135 solar photovoltaic projects totalling around 2.1 GW in the Italian pipeline and has also added energy storage development to the list of activities.

Construction of a roughly 100-MW solar project in the country is expected to commence by the end of 2024.
