Ecuador's Energy Ministry has launched a call for companies interested in participating in a tender for the construction of a 14.8-MWp solar farm with a 40.9-MWh energy storage system.

The project requires a private investment of USD 45 million (EUR 40m), the ministry said in a previous statement. Originally, this auction stage was scheduled to take place on March 24, 2020.

When completed, the Conolophus photovoltaic (PV) plant, as it is named, should be able to offset some 16,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in Galapagos' Santa Cruz island.

In addition to the PV project, the winner will also build a sectioning substation, the second circuit of a 34.5-kV subtransmission line and a microgrid central control system.

According to the new schedule, the tender's result announcement is planned for February 24, 2021.
