Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTEcuador’s continental demand for electricity rose by 8.13% on the year in January through July, national grid operator CENACE said on Friday.
The nation’s three continental regions -- Costa, Sierra and Amazon -- consumed 15,086 GWh over the seven-month period. Demand figures from the Galapagos Islands are excluded from the statistics.
The rising demand was prompted by a gradual boost in commercial and industrial activities, CENACE explained.
With a demand for 9,388 GWh, the coastal region accounted for 62.2% of the consumption, followed by Sierra and the Amazon needing 5,228 GWh and 469.56 GWh, respectively.
During the first six months of 2021, Ecuador was able to export 410.01 GWh of electricity to Colombia and Peru, pocketing revenues of USD 7.25 million (EUR 6.18m), the grid operator said.
CENACE added that 93.4% of electricity for both internal demand and exports was generated from renewable energy sources.
