EDF EN submits bid in France's second offshore wind power tender - report

Nov 26, 2013 - EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the renewable energy unit of EDF (EPA:EDF), has submitted a bid in France's second offshore wind power tender for a total of 1.0 GW in installed capacity, news agency AFP said on Monday referring to a source in the know.

The bid submission deadline expires on Friday, November 29, with selection due to be made over the first quarter of 2014.

Earlier in May this year, the French group said it formed a consortium with German WPD Offshore to target the tender and plans to use the 6-MW Haliade turbine of Alstom (EPA:ALO) if successful. EDF and Alstom were awarded the majority of the projects in the first offshore wind power tender launched by the French government.

A rival team comprises French gas utility GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ) and Portugal's EDP Renewables (ELI:EDPR).

France has set to achieve an installed wind offshore capacity of 6,000 MW by 2020, when 23% of its gross final energy consumption should be generated from renewable energy sources.
