EDF Renewables has brought online a 40-MWp solar park in Israel’s Negev Desert and signed a contract to supply renewable electricity to Tel Aviv-based pharma giant Teva Pharmaceutical (TLV:TEVA).

The power purchase agreement (PPA) with Teva was announced last week in a LinkedIn post. The contract will provide the generic drugs maker with 100% renewable power for all of its five locations in Israel, which account for around 15% of the company’s total power consumption globally. Supplies under the 10-year PPA will begin from 2024.

EDF Renewables said in a separate post that it will supply Teva with power with “clean and renewable solar energy.”

In an earlier post, EDF Renewables Israel announced the commissioning of its 40-MWp Ashalim PV 2 solar farm, which is part of a larger project combining photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies. Power from the plant will be supplied at a tariff of ILS 0.08 (USD 0.022/EUR 0.019) per kWh

EDF Renewables executed the project under the public-private partnership model after winning a tender held by the Israeli government.

With the latest addition Ashalim already has two CSP and two solar PV parks in operation totalling over 300 MW.

(ILS 1.0 = USD 0.269/EUR 0.243)
