EDP Renewables Europe unit gets green light for 264 MW wind park in Romania

Romanian company Ialomita Power, a subsidiary of Portugal's EDP Renewables Europe, has received regulatory approval to build a 264 megawatt (MW) wind park in Romania, the country's energy regulator said.

The park will be located near Facaeni, in the southern Ialomita county, according to a decision by Romanian energy regulator ANRE published on its website last week.

According to local media, the investment required for the installation of one megawatt of wind power amounts to about 1.2 million euro ($1.6 million), which should bring the total cost of the wind plant to more than 300 million euro.

EDP Renewables Europe, part of energy group Energias de Portugal (EDP), acquired 85% of Ialomita Power in 2011. The Romanian company posted a loss of 90,000 euro in 2012 on total revenue of 384,000 euro.

At end-2012, the EDP Group had an installed wind and solar capacity of 350 MW in Romania and another 28 MW under construction.
