Portuguese utility group EDP Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) announced today it will build a 3-MW portion of a 122-MW photovoltaic (PV) park in Spain using the Hyperflex mobile factory.

Italy-based automation company Comau, part of European car maker Stellantis NV (EPA:STLAP), is the developer of the technological solution.

Named AutoPV, the project is located in Valladolid province and its construction will be made through the use of an automatic assembly station. The PV structure is pre-assembled and then transported and positioned at its final place by a rover, EDP explained.

"The pilot in Penaflor is just the first step in introducing automation solutions into EDP's robust solar business plan. EDP's goal is to transform this into a global and integrated process, capable of generating competitive advantages for all the company's operations and enhancing our human capital for more qualified activities," commented Antonio Coutinho, CEO of EDP Innovation.
