Portuguese renewables company EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) has signed a Long-Term Reliability Service 1 (LT1) agreement in Canada in connection with the 75-MW/300-MWh Edgeware battery energy storage system (BESS) facility.

Under the terms of the 20-year contract, the company will sell the energy, capacity and ancillary services delivered from the facility to the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), EDPR said on Tuesday.

Edgeware is located in the city of St Thomas, Ontario, and is expected to go online in 2027.

With this new addition, the Portuguese renewables firm has secured under contracts more than 70% of the roughly 10 GW of capacity it aims to install during the 2024-2026 period, EDPR noted.
