Renewables raise share in Chile's power mix to 36.7% in July
Sep 02, 2024 15:05 CESTPortuguese renewables company EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) on Thursday inaugurated its 83-MW Punta de Talca wind farms in the region of Coquimbo, north-central Chile, the Chilean energy ministry said.
The project represented an investment of USD 120 million (EUR 110.6m) and enabled the Coquimbo region to now have 12 wind farms in operation with a total installed capacity of 777 MW, the ministry said.
The Punta de Talca wind farm is equipped with 14 pieces of 5.9-MW turbines installed in the commune of Ovalle. Its annual output is estimated at 197 GWh, which is enough to power around 95,000 homes.
Punta de Talca is EDPR’s first completed project in Chile. The company arrived in the Chilean market in 2021 through an acquisition of a 628-MW wind and solar portfolio.
