Australia puts green tick on 300-MW solar project in Queensland
Sep 20, 2024 6:04 CESTFeb 22, 2012 - UK clean-tech firm Eight19 yesterday said it had launched its IndiGo pay-as-you-go solar power systems in South Sudan.
IndiGo includes a battery, a solar panel, lights and a phone charging device, tailored to bring renewable electricity to off-grid communities.
The initiative to make the product available to off-grid rural communities in South Sudan's Nimule region is in partnership with international charitable organisation WorldVenture. The company expects that 1,000 units of the personal system will be installed in the region in the first half of 2012.
Eight19 introduced IndiGo in Kenya in September 2011. Together with South Sudan, the system has now been launched in four African countries. Eight19 said that more than 20% of the global population do not have access to grid electricity and rely on costly kerosene for basic needs like lighting.
