Elecnor to build 72-MW PV Park in Australia

(SeeNews) – Sep 16, 2014 - Spanish power company Elecnor SA (BME:ENO) said today it will build a 72-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park in Australia under a EUR-95-million (USD 123m) order.

This will be Elecnor’s first contract in Australia, which is considered priority by the company for its expansion abroad. The owner of the project is Moree Solar Farm Pty Ltd, a unit of Spanish solar power group Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV).

According to Elecnor, the Moree park in the state of New South Wales will be one of the biggest solar projects in Australia. With 232,960 solar panels covering 191 hectares (472 acres), the facility is to become operational in the second quarter of 2015. Its annual output is expected to be 155,000 MWh, equal to the electricity needs of some 15,000 households. The facility will also save 95,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions a year.

Elecnor has already developed more than 400 MW of solar PV projects in Spain and countries such as the US, France, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, Mauritius and Abu Dhabi.
