Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTElevenEs announced on Tuesday the opening of Europe’s first industrial facility for the manufacture of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells, which is planned to reach an annual production capacity of 500 MWh in 2024.
Located in Subotica, Serbia, the new factory specialises in the production of LFP prismatic cells for use in both energy storage systems and electric vehicles (EVs), whether cars, buses or trucks.
Backed by EIT InnoEnergy, the Serbian company says its EDGE battery cells are made without nickel or cobalt, which allows for increased sustainability and safety, as well as lower costs. Moreover, it claims that its cells last three times as long as competing technologies.
Over the next five years, ElevenEs’s goal will be to reach 48 GWh of production capacity across two Gigafactories. It noted that its first facility runs on a combination of hydro, wind, and solar power.
“The expansion of our R&D center and opening of our first production facility in Serbia is a huge milestone for ElevenEs and the European battery cell market as a whole. LFP has proven its potential to transform the EV market recently and, according to McKinsey, is forecasted to be the number one battery cell chemistry utilised globally by the end of this decade,” commented Nemanja Mikac, CEO at ElevenEs.
