Enapter to supply electrolysers for USD-50m Korean hydrogen demo

Enapter AG (FRA:H2O), in partnership with YEST Co Ltd (KOSDAQ:122640), will deploy two AEM electrolysers as part of a 12.5-MW hydrogen demonstration project on Jeju Island, South Korea, seeking to compare different electrolysis technologies.

The German company announced this on Monday, saying that it was the only European company among the five selected technology suppliers.

The two AEM Multicore electrolysers it will deliver have a total capacity of 2 MW. Enapter’s long-standing integration partner YEST will handle the installation of the equipment.

The KRW-62-billion (USD 50.2m/EUR 46.3m) government-backed pilot was announced at the end of September by the Korean Ministry of Industry and Trade (Motie). The goal of the project is to showcase all four existing water electrolysis systems – alkaline (AEC), polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), solid-oxide (SOEC), and anion exchange membrane (AEM).

It is estimated that, together, the installed electrolysers will produce 1,176 tonnes of hydrogen per year at a 60% utilisation rate, according to a previous announcement.
