The port of Klintholm on the Danish island of Mon will be used for the servicing of the 288-MW EnBW Baltic 2 offshore wind park in German waters as from August 2020, the plant operator announced on Tuesday.

German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK) said that a hotel and a service building are currently being built there to accommodate technicians, who have so far travelled from Rostock to a hotel vessel close to the wind farm. The opening of the hotel is planned for August, while the service building is scheduled for completion as early as July. Both sites are rented out under contract for at least ten years.

“We expect noticeable savings and synergies as the journey from Klintholm harbour only takes just over an hour,” commented Kent Hougaard of EnBW Offshore Services Danmark (EOS). According to him, in this case accommodation on land for the service team is far more cost-effective because the trip time is only just over an hour.

The EnBW Baltic 2 wind farm is located to the north of the island of Ruegen in the Baltic Sea. The facility consists of 80 Siemens SWT-3.6-120 wind turbines that have been generating power since 2015.
