German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK) today announced the successful installation of all 64 monopile foundations for the 960-MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

The 70-meter-long, 1,350-tonne steel foundations were driven into the sea bed around 85 kilometers northwest of Borkum and about 110 kilometers west of Helgoland by Heerema’s ‘Thialf’ floating crane over the course of three months.

With transition pieces already placed on top of the monopiles, contractors are expected to proceed with erecting 15-MW Vestas turbines on the foundations next summer. The completion of this zero-subsidy project is scheduled for late 2025, at which point the wind farm will have the capacity to generate enough electricity to supply some 1.1 million households a year.

EnBW secured the contract for the project back in 2017. It initiated construction work in May 2024 after seven years of planning.
