German wind and solar parks operator Encavis AG (ETR:ECV) announced on Monday the start of construction works on its first battery energy storage system (BESS) project, a 12-MW/24-MWh facility in Hettstedt, Germany.

“The Hettstedt BESS is a landmark project for Encavis and represents our strategic move into energy storage,” the company noted in a social media post.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems, a German subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Holdings, was hired as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor and will provide its mtu EnergyPack QG storage system.

The BESS is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2025, according to an earlier statement.
