May 6, 2013 - Spanish power utility and pulp producer Ence (MCE:ENC) produced 478 million kWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2013, up 21% year-on-year.

The good performance was attributed to the launch of the 50 MW biomass power plant in Huelva, which produced 92 million kWh of electricity in the period, up by 30% compared to the initial forecasts, Ence said in a statement.

The stake of renewable energy in the electricity mix of Ence amounted to 80% in the first quarter of the year, the company said.

Ence produced 394 kWh of electricity at its cellulose plants in the first three months of 2013.

The combined installed capacity of Ence reached 280 MW and 230 MW is renewable.

In 2012, Ence booked a net profit of EUR 43 million (USD 56.4m) for 2012, up 4% year-on-year, due to improvement of costs and competitiveness, as well as to positive operating results.
