Statkraft connects 44.5-MW solar farm to grid in Spain
Sep 19, 2024 15:28 CESTMay 15, 2013 - Spanish power utility Endesa (MCE:ELE) said in a statement yesterday that it had put on stream a 4.7 MW solar rooftop installation, specially designed for the distribution centre of Swedish furniture retailer IKEA in Valls, the capital of Alt Camp county in Tarragona province.
The installation includes 18,780 panels and is able to save 1,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. Some EUR 5 million (USD 6.45m) was spent on the project.
Since 2005 IKEA has had an objective to improve its energy efficiency by 25% by using green power sources. As part of this initiative, the company announced last week that it had officially plugged in a 590.8-kW direct current (DC) solar energy system at a store in the US state of Massachusetts.
