Spanish power utility Endesa SA (BME:ELE) said Wednesday it won a contract to build two solar photovoltaic (PV) self-generation systems and install them at campuses of the University of Jaen in Andalusia.

The two PV systems will have a combined capacity of 1,289 kW. Endesa will install a 1,055-kW array at Lagunillas and a 234-kW system at the Linares campus. Together they are expected to produce 2,141 MWh annually and avoid emissions of 1,283 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.

The solar arrays will start operations in early 2020. Endesa will operate them under a concession contract for 15 years, after which the university will be in charge of the systems until the end of their life-cycle, estimated to be another ten years.
