Statkraft connects 44.5-MW solar farm to grid in Spain
Sep 19, 2024 15:28 CESTSpanish utility Endesa SA (BME:ELE), through its energy solutions outfit Endesa X, has signed an agreement with Atalaya Mining Plc (LON:ATYM) to install a 50-MW solar farm that will power a copper mine in Andalusia, southern Spain.
The EUR-30-million (USD 32.6m) project will see Endesa X install over 75,700 solar panels at the historic Riotinto open pit copper mine. The solar farm will generate enough power to meet a quarter of the mine’s needs, and also help it lower its electricity bills and carbon intensity, the utility said.
The Riotinto solar farm is set to become the largest industrial self-consumption plant in Spain, and the first one to power a mine, according to Endesa.
