The North American unit of Italian utility Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) on Wednesday announced the start of operations at the 200-MW Alta Farms wind farm in the US state of Illinois which will supply power to technology conglomerate Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META).

The company initiated construction work on the USD-345-million (EUR 323m) project in DeWitt County in the first half of 2021.

Alta Farms has a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 125 MW under which the wind park will energise Meta’s DeKalb Data Center. In addition, the rest of the capacity has been contracted by Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA).

Over its lifetime, the wind park is expected to generate more than USD 44 million in local property tax revenue and over USD 50 million in lease payments to landowners.
