Italian renewables business Enel Green Power SpA announced this week it had secured a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply 42 GWh of renewable electricity annually in Guatemala.

The company, part of Italian energy multinational Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL), has signed the contract with Empresa Electrica de Guatemala SA (EEGSA), a power distribution company that serves more than 1.3 million customers in the departments of Guatemala, Sacatepequez and Escuintla.

Under the PPA, EEGSA is to purchase the output of Enel Green Power’s Matanzas and San Isidro hydropower plants located in the Baja Verapaz department.

The PPA was secured in a public tender held in February 2020, Enel Green Power said.
