Enel Green Power wins tender to supply 4,159 GWh to Chile's regulated market

(SeeNews) – Dec 2, 2013 – Enel Green Power (BIT:EGPW) on Friday said it had won long-term contracts as part of a public tender in Chile to supply up to 4,159 GWh until 2024 to a group of operators in Chile's regulated electricity market.

Enel SpA's (BIT:ENEL) renewable energy unit will supply the energy at a price of USD 128 (EUR 94.1m) per MWh, starting in December 2013.

The power will be generated by an already existing plant and by three new ones -- two solar plants and a wind farm -- Enel Green Power will build by the first half of 2015 for a total installed capacity of 161 MW. The plants, whose construction will require an investment of some USD 320 million, will be connected to Chile's Central Region Transmission Network. The group will finance the investment with own resources, in line with its growth targets envisaged by the 2013-2017 business plan, a statement read.

In Chile's wind sector, Enel Green Power has recently connected to the grid its 90 MW Talinay wind farm and is completing the construction of its 90 MW Valle de los Vientos wind farm. In August, Enel Green Power also launched the construction of its 99 MW Taltal wind farm. In the geothermal sector, the company is exploring various concessions with a potential of around 100 MW.
