Enel Generacion Peru, a subsidiary of Italian utility group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL), announced on Monday that it has successfully injected first power from its 177-MW Wayra Extension wind farm, located in the Peruvian province of Nazca.

The Wayra Extension, or Wayra II, wind farm boasts 30 cutting-edge turbines, each with a capacity of 5.9 MW and a hub height of 184 meters, making them the tallest in South America, the Peruvian power producer said. The turbine installation was completed in October, paving the way for the gradual integration of the wind farm into Peru’s power grid.

Jennifer Mejia, project manager of Wayra Extension, said that she expects the wind farm to be fully operational in December 2023.

Once fully up and running, the new wind farm and its predecessor, the 132-MW Wayra I, will form a 310-MW generation complex.
