Enel Green Power Guatemala announced on Tuesday that it has secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply a total of 17.52 GWh of hydropower to the local restaurants of McDonald’s Corp (NYSE:MCD) over two years.

The company has signed a contract with Cova Energy, a trading entity created to represent McDonald’s Guatemala.

Under the PPA, the domestic arm of fast-food giant McDonald's will receive the contracted energy from Enel's local hydropower plants (HPPs), which have 164 MW of combined capacity.

With the agreement, 100% of the energy consumption of McDonald’s restaurants will be met with renewables, Enel pointed out in the press release.

Enel's HPPs are located in three departments: the 12-MW Matanzas and 4-MW San Isidro are located in Baja Verapaz, the 47-MW El Canada and 13-MW Montecristo in Quetzaltenango and the 87-MW Palo Viejo in Quiche.
