Latin American utility Enel Colombia said on Tuesday that it has finalised the installation of solar panels at its 486.7-MWdc Guayepo I & II solar farm, located in the Colombian department of Atlantico.

The last of the 820,600 solar panels was positioned in its place in recent days.

The Guayepo I & II solar complex is already feeding electricity to the national grid on a trial basis. The construction of the project is approaching completion, Enel Colombia said.

Guayepo I & II is said to be the largest solar farm in Colombia. Part of its production is reserved for Colombia brewery Bavaria SA, which signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enel Colombia to procure around 250 GWh of electricity per year.

It emerged this week that Enel Colombia has not been as lucky with its wind farm projects in the country. Colombian business newspaper La Republica reported on Monday that Enel Colombia suspended indefinitely the works on three wind projects -- Windpeshi, Tumawind and Chemeski -- all located in the department of La Guajira.

The utility itself announced in May 2023 that it was halting Windpeshi mid-construction following constant protests and blockades staged by the opposing communities. La Republica reported, citing Jose Antonio Vargas, chairman of Enel Colombia’s board of directors, that the company was dropping all three projects.
