Germany’s Enercon GmbH has booked an order to supply 330 MW of wind turbines for projects in its home market, the manufacturer said on Tuesday.

The contract includes the delivery and installation of 50 units of the E-175 EP5 and seven units of the E-138 EP3 wind turbines, planning and construction of two transformer stations, and turbine maintenance for a period of 20 years.

The customer is German energy holding Bals/SelzEnergie.

The equipment will be used in wind farm projects in Rheinhessen and Lower Franconia, south-central Germany. The E-175 EP5 is a new top model and a highly competitive turbine solution for medium to weak wind locations, while the E-138 EP3 is designed for medium wind locations. Both models are based on the Enercon-typical gearless direct drive and will be delivered with the E-nacelle for fast installation, the turbine maker said.

The Bals/SelzEnergie group plans to start construction of the first projects, known as Sommerhausen, Altertheim and Neubrunn, in Lower Franconia this year. The implementation period for all wind farms will extend until 2027.

“The upswing in the German wind market is clearly noticeable - among other things, high-volume auctions and faster approval procedures are contributing to this”, said Enercon Chief Commercial Officer Uli Schulze Suedhoff. “With our current product portfolio and our service, we believe we are ideally positioned. In the past six months alone, we recorded a double-digit increase in our order volume compared to the previous year in our core market of Germany”.
