Enerfin, the renewables arm of Spanish infrastructure builder and operator Elecnor SA (BME:ENO), has initiated commercial operation of its 102-MW/129-MWp Porton del Sol solar farm in Colombia.

The project is notable for being the first solar farm with a capacity of more than 20 MW to pass the testing stage in Colombia and the first centrally-dispatched solar farm to begin commercial operation in the country, the Colombian ministry of mining and energy said.

The Porton del Sol plant is located in the town of La Dorada in Colombia’s Caldas department. Enefin took out a non-recourse loan in Colombian pesos last year to finance this project. Its entry into operation has raised Colombia’s net installed capacity to 20,022 MW, according to the ministry.

Enerfin is currently in the process of being sold to Norwegian state-owned power company Statkraft AS. Statkraft has already announced it will sell Enerfin’s assets in Colombia, Canada, the US and Australia, considering these countries to be non-core markets for its business.
