Irish energy company Energia Group on Tuesday announced the opening of its 49-MW Drumlins Park wind farm, which has a power purchase agreement (PPA) with US tech giant Microsoft Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Located near Newbliss in Co Monaghan, the wind park is made up of eight wind turbines provided by GE Renewable Energy.

This is Energia Group’s 16th wind farm and the first project to reach commercial operations as part of a strategic framework agreement signed with Microsoft in 2022, under which Energia Group will build and operate a portfolio of new onshore wind farms and solar projects in Ireland.

“At Microsoft, we are committed to supporting the decarbonisation of energy grids in the markets where we operate. The commercial operation of the Drumlins Park wind farm is one of a number of projects coming online as a result of 900MWs of renewable energy projects that we announced in late 2022,” said Lavinia Morris, general manager, EMEA Data Centre Operations, at Microsoft.

The Drumlins Park project will help Microsoft with its goal of achieving 100% renewable energy supply globally by 2025.
