German renewables developer-operator Energiequelle GmbH has joined forces with Austrian sector player Brandpower Windkraft GmbH & Co KG to develop wind and solar projects in Austria.

The parties have signed a cooperation agreement that marks Energiequelle’s entry into the Austrian market, the German company said on Wednesday. The partnership will focus on project development and aims to back Austria’s goal to switch 100% of all domestic electricity consumption to renewable energy sources by 2030 and to achieve climate neutrality in 2040.

“Austria has established clear political framework conditions to enable the expansion of wind and solar energy. With Brand-power, we also have a local partner at our side who knows the country and the laws and whose network and expertise we can benefit from when we enter the market,” said Juan Hernan, director international project management at Energiequelle.

Energiequelle noted it has been working on its Austria expansion since last year when it established contacts with partners to prepare for its market entry. Apart from its home country, this will be the sixth country in which the German firm is doing business after France, Finland, Poland, Greece and South Africa.
