Austria-based Enery said Thursday it has signed a 10-year virtual cross-border power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Hungarian beer company Dreher Sorgyarak Zrt, or Dreher Breweries.

Under the deal, Enery will provide the brewery with 14 GWh of certified renewable electricity a year, starting from January 2025.

Dreher Breweries is part of Asahi Europe & International (AEI), the international branch of Japanese beverage and food company Asahi Group Holdings. This marks Enery's second VPPA with subsidiaries of Asahi Europe & International, following a contract in Romania, to support the development of renewable assets in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

According to the announcement, the agreement with Dreher Breweries is unique for the CEE region because the asset and the offtaker are located in different market zones. Further details of the asset subject to the PPA and its location were not provided.

The innovative contract supports Asahi Europe & International’s goal of becoming carbon neutral in all its breweries by 2030.

Enery has an operating renewable energy portfolio of 312 MW, generating almost 450 GWh, as well as a development pipeline of more than 8 GW in 11 countries.
