Eneti orders up-to-20-MW turbine installation vessel from Korean shipbuilder

Maritime solutions provider Eneti Inc (NYSE:NETI) this week said it has entered into a contract for the construction of a next-generation wind turbine installation vessel capable of installing turbines of up to 20 MW.

The binding contract, worth USD 330 million (EUR 273m), is with South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (KRX:042660), which will deliver the vessel in the third quarter of 2024. Eneti also holds an option for the construction of another vessel at the same price, net of currency adjustments.

The installation vessel will feature a 2,600 ton leg encircling crane and will be able to install turbines at depths of up to 65 metres (213 ft).

In addition, the company said it is in advanced talks with American shipbuilders for the construction of a Jones Act-compliant wind turbine installation vessel in recognition of calls of an American-constructed and American-operated asset.

Eneti, previously Scorpio Bulkers Inc, last year announced plans to shift away from dry bulk commodity transportation towards marine-based renewable energy and investment in new generation of wind turbine installation vessels.
