Brazilian power utility Engie Brasil Energia SA (BVMF:EGIE3) has started the commissioning of the first 15 wind turbines in the 846-MW Serra do Assurua wind complex.

The company announced on Wednesday that 8% of all turbines to be installed in the complex are in commercial operation. Serra do Assurua will feature 188 wind turbines spread across 24 plants.

Located in the municipality of Gentio do Ouro, Bahia state, the wind power asset was given the green light by power sector regulator Aneel on August 6, 2024.

Engie Brasil's Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer, Eduardo Takamori, said that Serra do Assurua will require BRL 6 billion (USD 1bn/EUR 978m) in investments.

The wind complex is scheduled to enter full operation by the end of 2025, the firm's CEO Eduardo Sattamini noted.
