French utility Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) and UK-based infrastructure project developer eleQtra have joined hands for the construction of a 50-MW wind farm in Ghana.

The two parties have struck a joint development agreement for the project, called Ada wind park, according to a press release by the French company. Engie will own a 40% interest in the scheme, which was launched by eleQtra and will require an investment of nearly USD 120 million (EUR 107m).

The wind power facility will be situated in the eastern part of the Greater Accra region. It is scheduled to begin operations at the start of 2019.

The project is in line with Ghana’s goal to produce 10% of its power from renewables and the local government’s plan to make the country a power generation hub in West Africa and export to regions in the West African Power Pool.
