Engie Chile, part of French utility Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), has energised the first turbine at its 342-MW Lomas del Taltal wind farm site in the Chilean region of Antofagasta.

Over 80% of the project has been completed and 24 turbines already installed, Engie Chile said on Tuesday.

Lomas del Taltal will have 57 units of Goldwind wind turbines, each with 6 MW of capacity. The project is budgeted at around USD 450 million (EUR 412m), according to an earlier statement.

Once in operation, the Lomas del Taltal wind farm will be Engie Chile’s largest renewable energy plant in the country, the utility said.
