Engie North America, part of French utility Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), said today it has signed a deal with Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) to supply the Facebook group with the entire output of its 260-MW Sypert Branch solar project in Texas.

The solar project was developed and will be built and operated by Engie. Located about 10 miles (16 km) from Meta’s data center in Temple, it is expected to start operation in late 2025.

The environmental attributes purchase agreement for the project’s renewable energy and associated environmental attributes will support Meta’s growing power needs in alignment with its net zero goals. Sypert Branch will add to the more than 12 GW of renewable energy Meta has already procured.

“Since 2020, we have maintained net zero emissions in our global operations – these efforts are supported by relationships such as those with Engie who can consistently deliver and operate projects like Sypert Branch to help meet our energy needs,” said Urvi Parekh, head of clean energy at Meta.

Sypert Branch will add to Engie’s portfolio of some 8 GW of renewable projects in operation or construction in North America. Since the start of 2024, the company has now signed nearly 1 GW of power purchase agreements (PPAs) in the US. Recently, it struck a deal to deliver to Google LLC green power from its 350-MW Chillingham solar project in Texas, which is due to go online later this year.
