Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFrench energy group Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Djibouti to develop a 30-MW solar project in the country.
The pact was signed last week when a delegation of the French group met with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh. According to an official statement, the photovoltaic (PV) project will be the start of a larger energy initiative in Djibouti, which is currently highly dependent on power imports from Ethiopia. The country's goal is to switch to 100% renewables by 2020.
State-owned utility Electricite de Djibouti (EDD) will be actively involved in the 30-MW solar project and is part of the MOU, Christophe Guilhou, the French ambassador in Djibouti said in a Twitter post.
In line with Djibouti’s plan to become energy independent, French firm Blue Shark Power is developing a 120-MW tidal power project. Several hundred megawatts of wind, solar geothermal and biomass capacity are planned to go online within 10 years.
